In the spotlight: Marije

At the end of 2022, our quality manager, Marije Plompen (1993), had been with us for five years.

It was time to interview this lady.

How it all started

After completing her studies Biotechnology at Van Hall Larenstein in Leeuwarden, Marije had a job for a few months in order to make her long-cherished trip to Asia. For four months she traveled together with a friend and finished this trip in Costa Rica. Here she took a Spanish language course.

Once returned to the Netherlands, she had only one job interview. This was Esro Seafood (our old company name). ‚Then Ben (the owner) was single-handedly responsible for sales, purchasing and quality. I then took over the quality department.‚ From the moment Marije joined the team, several beautiful labels and certificates have been obtained.

VIETNAM & IFS BROKER CERTIFICATE

Looking back on the past five years, Marije names several highlights. First of all, she mentiones her visit to the tuna supplier in Vietnam. ‚This visit was very cool, because it allows you to see the whole process from catching the Tuna to the development to a Saku Block.‘  Next to that, she names the process she led to obtaining the IFS broker certificate. ‚This certificate was developed for importers, like us, to demonstrate that as an organization we have food safety risks under control. We even scored higher level!‘ Marije also guided the transition from Reflex Systems to AFAS, which was a challenge but the result is worth it!

The flat organizational structure is a plus

The best thing about her job? That’s the variety, because no day at Blue World Seafood is the same and that makes it fun. The cooperation with all her colleagues is also pleasant: ‚We are a close team and can discuss everything each other. The team is fun, young and everyone always thinks along. Frequently, we also have nice team days.‚ Marije thinks the flat organizational structure at Blue World Seafood is also a plus: ‚You don’t have to shoot an appointment in a colleague’s diary three weeks in advance to ask a question. You just walk into someone’s office‚. In addition, a good lunch is provided daily!
